S.U.C.K.S., By This review is from: Mantis E-System Electric Power Head 330102 (Lawn & Patio) I purchased the Mantis e-system last year and finally got around to taking it out to use it today. I originally bought the e-system with the head unit, the hedge trimmer and the pole saw as a package deal. The following review will cover all three parts, since they are designed to be used in conjunction with each other. I was really excited when I first ran across this product. What could be better than a pole hedge trimmer that also can turn into an edger or pole saw, etc? Seems like a good idea, although I didn't notice the "made in China" on the box until I went to open it today. So with three medium trees in the side yard to trim, I broke open the Mantis package. Packing was nice and the company included some bar oil for the pole saw. The head unit was a bit heavier than I expected. I also noticed that the trigger to operate it was a bit awkward. There is a button you have to push in order to depress the trigger, but it's difficult to work it. I... I am using my third trimmer as the first two were returned under warranty. The problem is the trimmer keeps jamming for no reason. I have to disassemble the unit and try to find out where the jam is I never really find the problem but have had to remove all of the screws from the trimmer and open up the gear case. When all is loose the unit will usually clear itself. Sometimes I have to do this several times before the unit unjams itself. Also, the unit is very heavy and when you are trying to reach high branches it is difficult to control. I am sorry I purchased this unit and did not return it when I could. The first day of trimming 4" branches worked great but on the second day a grinding noise started coming from inside the gear box (located just between the plastic oil resevoir). In about 5 more minutes the chain would stop turning the minute it touched a branch. This means the gears stripped inside the motor. I hardly used it and certainly was not hard on it. Just poor quality for a $90.00 attachement. |
